Building Energy Flexibility Assessment in Mediterranean Climatic Conditions: The Case of a Greek Office Building

The EU energy and climate policy has set quantitative goals for decarbonization based on the efficiency evolution of systems. utilization demand side flexibility can help towards this direction achieve target higher levels penetration in regard to intermittent renewable production carbon emission reduction. This paper presents a simulation-based assessment thermal typical office building Greece, which is representative Mediterranean country. use variable speed heat pumps coupled with hydronic terminal units was evaluated. research focused mainly evaluation offered by stored form utilizing building’s mass. response potential under hourly CO2eq intensity prices investigated. evaluated different strategies, effect consumption, operational costs, emissions comfort analyzed discussed. results showed that both control strategies CO2eqintensity signal spot price have, some cases, cost savings, other depreciate terms increase consumption due load shifting.
